Borr Drilling has adjusted the deployment schedule for its Odin jackup rig ahead of the contractor's first drilling campaign in the US Gulf, following delays in regulatory approvals and concerns over potential hurricane-season operating constraints.

The revised plan will see the rig begin a two-well program for an undisclosed operator before transitioning to a separate campaign with Houston-based independent Cantium.

This campaign represents Borr's first entry into the US Gulf jackup market, a region that remains one of the world's most active shallow-water offshore drilling hubs. However, operators and drilling contractors routinely adjust schedules during the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June through November, to reduce weather-related operational risks. 

Borr adds backlog despite US Gulf delay

Despite the change to Odin's schedule, Borr said fleet activity remains strong. The contractor expects 23 rigs to be active during the current quarter and has secured eight new contract commitments since its previous earnings update, representing more than 2,100 days of additional firm backlog.

The Idun, Gunnlod, Skald, Sif, Natt and Prospector 5 are all now fully operational. 

Separately, Borr's 50:50 joint venture with a Mexican well-construction partner has completed the acquisition of five premium jackups from Fontis. Two of the rigs are already working under contract, a third is expected to begin operations shortly, and the venture is seeking opportunities for the remaining two units.
