ALDERSHOT, UK – Transocean has contracted InteliWell to supply its software to the harsh environment Transocean Norge semisub on behalf of clients Wintershall Dea and OMV.

InteliWell is a joint venture between Nekkar subsidiary Intellilift, Transocean and Viasat subsidiary RigNet.

The partnership aims to lessen drilling time through rig automation and streamlining of the well construction process, using new AI-driven processes and tools. InteliWell’s software is said to provide a closed-loop workflow for well construction planning, execution and monitoring.

Transocean Norge can drill in water depths up to 1,000 m and to a maximum depth of 12,200 m. It is preparing to start a joint contract with Wintershall Dea and OMV that involves drilling 17 wells offshore Norway.

Use of InteliWell should also lead to improved safety by reducing the need for manual work and personnel exposure in red zones on the rig floor, said Stig Trydal, managing director of Intellilift.
