SOLNA, Sweden  Echandia will supply battery systems for an unnamed jackup drilling rig working in the Middle East region.

According to the company, oil and gas producers are responding to pressures from customers to minimize the carbon footprint of their operations.

Hybridization of the rig will help eliminate peak loads that would otherwise require multiple generators to operate under off-design conditions.

This should make for smoother operations as well as lower fuel consumption and maintenance costs.

The 860-kWh heavy-duty energy storage system to be supplied is based on Echandia’s maritime certified battery system, a container-based storage solution said to be simple to install onboard the rig.

Echandia is a Swedish developer of heavy-duty energy storage solutions for maritime and offshore applications.
