VANCOUVER, Canada – The Odfjell Drilling semisubmersible Deepsea Stavanger has departed Bergen, Norway for South Africa to start a multi-well drilling program on block 11B/12B, according to Africa Energy Corp.

President and CEO Garrett Soden said the rig is expected to spud the Luiperd-1 well by September. “Luiperd is the largest prospect in the Paddavissie Fairway and has been de-risked by the nearby Brulpadda discovery and subsequent 3D seismic work,” he said.

In February 2019, the Deepsea Stavanger drilled the basin-opening Brulpadda oil and gas discovery on block 11B/12B, which is in the Outeniqua basin 175 km (109 mi) off the southern coast of South Africa.

Block 11B/12B covers 19,000 sq km (7,336 sq mi) in water depths ranging from 200-1,800 m (656-5,905 ft).

Africa Energy holds 49% of the shares in Main Street 1549 Proprietary Ltd., which has a 10% participating interest in block 11B/12B. Total E&P South Africa B.V. is operator and has a 45% participating interest, while Qatar Petroleum International Upstream LLC and CNR International (South Africa) Ltd. have 25% and 20% participating interests, respectively.
