ABERDEEN, UK – PlanSea Solutions, a spin-off from Robert Gordon University (RGU), is developing artificial intelligence-based software to help streamline oil and gas industry logistics in the North Sea.
Its program builds on an earlier study undertaken by RGU and the Oil and Gas Technology Centre (OGTC) in Aberdeen to assess offshore vessel use and efficiency across the UK continental shelf.
This identified potential cost savings of up to 25% from an annual industry spend of more than £300 million ($382 million), also concluding that the optimization software could help reduce the sector’s carbon dioxide emissions.
The current development, a partnership with BP, CNOOC International and Equinor, also has OGTC funding.
It will draw on existing optimization algorithms and software tools developed by RGU, which have been successfully applied onshore in the telecommunications and haulage sectors.
