HELSINKI, FinlandWärtsilä has introduced an agreement-based Power Solution for new normally unattended offshore installations (NUIs).

It is designed to provide these facilities with up to six months of operations without planned maintenance activity, leading potentially to substantial savings, the company claimed.

The solution that can be adapted to the needs of each installation: the accompanying power system, includes Wärtsilä DF (dual-fuel) engines, generators, and auxiliary systems.

Wärtsilä says its new approach allows all scheduled maintenance activities for NUIs to be performed efficiently using ‘walk to work’ support vessels, eliminating the need for on-site accommodation facilities.

It can be extended to include maintenance of power management, automation and auxiliary equipment.

Conventional offshore power solutions require monitoring and regular inspections, the company said, with maintenance conducted based on the number of running hours of the engine.

That is not the case with the Power Solution: the interval between maintenance campaigns can typically be extended by up to six months, while the condition of the equipment and its performance continue to be monitored and assessed remotely from a Wärtsilä Expertise Center.

Samuli Kyttälä, senior business innovation manager, Performance Services at Wärtsilä Marine said the approach will help lower the investment cost of NUIs and cut their operating costs, while the Wärtsilä DF engines provide the flexibility to change fuels if necessary.
