Ørsted, Global Wind Service and Acta Marine have reported key project milestones across Europe, including the start-up of Germany's 913-MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 wind farm, turbine pre-assembly activities for the Windanker project in the Baltic Sea, and deployment of a new service operation vessel for RWE's Sofia offshore wind farm.

Meanwhile, COLI Group has completed a major transformer transport campaign supporting the Baltica 2 development in Poland.

Borkum Riffgrund 3 enters commercial operation

Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure’s Borkum Riffgrund 3 wind farm in the German North Sea has begun commercial operations.

The 913-MW development, 72 km offshore, is one of the largest in the German sector, supplying electricity to German industrial and technology offtakers.

It is also Ørsted’s sixth operational offshore wind farm in Germany, following the 253-MW Gode Wind 3 project commissioned in early 2025, and again, owned jointly with infrastructure investment manager Nuveen.

The project is among Germany's largest offshore wind farms and supplies renewable electricity under long-term corporate power purchase agreements.

Pre-assembly begins for Windanker wind turbines in Baltic Sea

Global Wind Service has started offshore pre-assembly activities for the 300-MW Windanker offshore wind project at the Port of Mukran/Sassnitz in Germany.

This is preparing the 21 SG 14.0-236 DD wind turbines (total capacity of 300 MW) for the next stages of offshore installation.

The Windanker project is being developed by Ørsted in the German Baltic Sea.

Acta Marine SOV begins support role at Sofia wind project

Acta Marine’s newest service operation vessel (SOV), Acta Gemini, has started a long-term charter agreement to support RWE’s 1.4-GW Sofia Offshore Wind Farm in northwest Europe.

The vessel, operating from Grimsby on the English east coast, will provide offshore accommodation and walk-to-work services for personnel involved in the commissioning and future operation and maintenance of the development.

The location is on Dogger Bank, 195 km from the coast of northeast England.

Acta Gemini was built at the Tersan Shipyard in Turkey. It can accommodate up to 88 personnel and features a helideck and two daughter craft.

Sofia is one of the largest offshore wind developments currently under construction in the UK sector of the North Sea.

COLI completes transformer transport for Baltica 2 wind project

COLI Group has completed the transport of 14 power transformers from GE Vernova’s facility in Türkiye to Poland for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm. The six-month multimodal logistics campaign involved three vessel voyages, specialized barging, RoRo operations, heavy-haul road transport and temporary engineering structures to move oversized transformer units weighing up to 361 metric tons each.

The project supports the 1.5-GW Baltica 2 offshore wind development, being built by PGE and Ørsted, which is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 2.4 million households in Poland.

The transport campaign highlights the increasingly complex logistics required to deliver large electrical infrastructure components for next-generation offshore wind projects.
