Van Oord completes Baltica 2 monopile placements offshore Poland

Van Oord completes Baltica 2 monopile placements offshore Poland

Van Oord has installed all 111 monopiles for the Baltica 2 wind farm in the Polish sector of the Baltic Sea.

The 1.5-GW project is a joint venture between PGE and Ørsted. The latter is responsible for the preparation and delivery of the project’s offshore activities, while Van Oord is the main contractor for the transport and installation of the foundations and scour protection.  

Ørsted and Van Oord teams collaborated to optimize installation sequencing, logistics and vessel deployment. 

The monopiles are up to 100 m long, between 9.5 and 10.5 m in diameter, and with a weight of around 1,900 mt each: 107 of the monopiles will support wind turbines and four the offshore substations.

Van Oord used its Svanen and Aeolus vessels for the installation campaign.

The dual-vessel approach, it claimed, allowed multiple activities to be performed in parallel, helping to keep the project on schedule.
