Yunneng's offshore wind farm fully operational offshore Taiwan
The 640-MW Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm in the Taiwan Strait has started full commercial operations.
All electricity business licenses are in place, with all regulatory aspects and applicable contractual obligations fulfilled under the financing agreement, developer Yunneng Wind Power Co. Ltd. reported Aug. 21.
Yunneng is a joint venture between Skyborn Renewables, TotalEnergies, Electricity Generating Public Co., and Sojitz Corp. TotalEnergies will take on technical operations management, with Skyborn responsible for other management services.
All 80 wind turbine generators are fully connected to the grid, with the development also set to reduce CO2 emissions by about 1.2 MMt/year.
“Throughout this journey, the project has established new models of collaboration with local suppliers and financing of green energy projects in Taiwan,” said Xian-Shuen (XS), chairperson of Yunneng.
The development is situated between 8 km and 17 km offshore Taiwan’s west coast, over 82 sq km, and in water depths ranging from 7 m to 35 m.
Generated electricity enters the Taiwanese power grid via two onshore substations near Taixi and Sihu townships in Yunlin County. All the electricity is contracted to Taiwan Power Co. under two 20-year power purchase agreements.
