Several offshore wind projects have been progressing lately.

For instance, late last month Ocean Winds chose Siemens Gamesa to supply and maintain the offshore wind turbines for the BC-Wind project in the Baltic Sea, and ABS issued an approval in principle to MODEC for its floating offshore wind turbine concept iTLP2-FOWT. In addition, Acteon’s Marine Foundations business will provide pile-driving equipment and operations to support construction of Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 wind farm development in the North Sea.

This week it was reported that Fugro's geotechnical service will support development of the Youde wind farm offshore Taiwan, and TGS will provide its Prediktor Data Gateway service for the Empire Wind 1 development offshore New York.

Fugro starts geotechnical program for Youde wind project offshore Taiwan

Shinfox Energy has contracted Fugro for geotechnical service to support development of the 700-MW Youde wind farm offshore western Taiwan.

Fugro will deploy the Taiwan-flagged Pacific Hornbill, an IOVTEC-managed DP2 vessel with an onboard C30 marine geotechnical drilling rig and Fugro’s WISON MkV EcoDrive downhole in-situ testing and sampling system.

Other seabed geotechnical equipment will include the SEACALF MkV Deep Drive, which will enable acquisition of geotechnical data in seabed and downhole mode throughout the campaign.

Geotechnical fieldwork is underway and should be completed during the fourth quarter.

TGS aiding digital data management at Empire Offshore Wind

TGS will provide its Prediktor Data Gateway service to Equinor for the Empire Wind 1 offshore wind development 15 miles south of Long Island, New York.

The project will have a planned generating capacity of 810 MW. Prediktor will perform data management services to support standardization, security and management of data.

The service, currently deployed at various other large offshore wind projects such as Dogger Bank in the UK southern North Sea, is said to enable integration of data across multiple offshore facilities, streamlining operations and maintenance applications, and helping operators to scale their digital infrastructure appropriately.
