Mammoet has signed an agreement to assist Heerema Marine Contractors with the offshore installation of two large topsides for TenneT’s 2-GW offshore wind development program in the North Sea.

TenneT has commissioned 14 high-voltage direct current (HVDC) offshore grid connection systems, each with a capacity of 2 GW, for installation by 2032—six offshore Germany and eight offshore the Netherlands.

These will receive and send to the shore power generated by wind farms in the North Sea. They will convert the power from AC to DC, providing a higher transmission capacity through using fewer cables.

Mammoet will help Hereema prepare the structures for floatover operations by skidding the topsides from the HTV yard onto the newbuild Heerema H731 barge, using hydraulic skid shoes.

Following the skid-over operation, Mammoet’s Mega Jack system will lift the topsides to the designated floatover height onboard the barge, with a deck support frame (or floatover frame) pulled underneath the topsides to facilitate their final installation onto jacket foundations.
