Mammoet claims its new SK6000 crane, due to start operating later this year, is the world’s strongest land-based crane.
It could play a key role in advancing offshore wind, the company claimed, as rapidly growing demand for components in recent years has led to the current global supply chain issues.
The SK6000, currently undergoing tests at Mammoet’s onshore Westdorpe site in the Netherlands, will be able to lift 3,000 t to a height of 220 m. This capability could help reduce integration times for floating offshore wind projects.
The new crane, with a maximum capacity of 6,000 t, uses 4,200 t of ballast to lift with a maximum ground bearing pressure of 30t/sq m. It is also designed to be transported using shipping containers to any location worldwide.
It also provides a fully electric power capability from a battery or supply from the grid, allowing customers to reduce their projects’ carbon impact.
