Gulf operators evacuating ahead of Hurricane Delta

Personnel have been evacuated from 180 production platforms and three non-dynamically positioned rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, according to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement.

NEW ORLEANS — Offshore oil and gas operators continue to evacuate platforms and rigs and shut-in oil and gas production as Hurricane Delta enters the Gulf of Mexico.

Based on data from 43 offshore operator reports submitted to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) as of 11:30 CDT today, personnel have been evacuated from 180 production platforms and three non-dynamically positioned rigs. Twelve DP rigs have moved off location.

From operator reports, BSEE estimates that about 80.42% of the current oil production, or 1,487,699 b/d, and 49.26% of the natural gas production, or 1,334.9 MMcf/d, in the Gulf have been shut-in.
