NEW ORLEANS – Offshore oil and gas operators have started to evacuate platforms and rigs in the Gulf of Mexico in preparation for Hurricane Delta.

Based on data from 21 offshore operator reports submitted to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), personnel have been evacuated from 56 production platforms and one non-dynamically positioned (DP) rig.

Six DP rigs have moved off location out of the hurricane’s projected path.

BSEE estimates that about 29.22% of the current oil production, 540,495 b/d, and 8.59% of the natural gas production, 232.71 MMcf/d, in the Gulf have been shut-in.
