OSLO, Norway – Seven companies have submitted bids for Norway’s 25th licensing round, covering mostly frontier acreage.

Of the 136 blocks or part-blocks on offer, 11 are in the Norwegian Sea and 125 in the Barents Sea.

The list of applicants is: Equinor Energy, Idemitsu Petroleum Norge, Ineos E&P Norge, Lundin Norway, Norske Shell, OMV (Norge), and Vår Energi. Aker BP and Wintershall were among established players on the shelf that did not submit bids.

According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, factors in the evaluation process will include technical expertise and a solid understanding of the geology in the area, along with financial strength.
