BAKU, Azerbaijan – Operations at the Ümid gas field in the Caspian Sea are reportedly continuing as normal, despite a nearby explosion.

State-owned SOCAR has confirmed the incident took place around 10-12 km (6.2-7.4 mi) from the field, but with no damage arising to the platforms and associated facilities.

Other reports from Azerbaijan suggest the cause of the explosion may have been a volcanic eruption.
