PERTH, AustraliaBHP has secured approval from Barbados’ government for a 3D seismic survey over the offshore Bimshire and Carlisle Bay blocks.

These are located 40-140 km (25-87 mi) southeast of Barbados, in waters reportedly up to 2,000 m (6,562 ft). Both were awarded to BHP in early February 2020.

Acquisition should start in the next few months, the company revealed in its latest operations update.

Off Trinidad and Tobago, the Calypso appraisal program continues. The Bongos-3 well, spud in late July, encountered hydrocarbons and the Bongos-3X side track is currently being drilled for further appraisal.

Once this has been completed, drilling will resume on the suspended Bongos-4 well.

In the Gulf of Mexico, the Wasabi exploration well (GC124-001) is also under way. At Shenzi two new infill wells should come online next year: early flowback results look promising.

Finally, BHP and Woodside have agreed on options concerning the Scarborough gas project offshore Western Australia in case their proposed merger does not go through.

In this case, BHP could divest its 26.5% interest in the Scarborough joint venture and 50% interest in the Thebe and Jupiter JVs to Woodside.
