ROME, Italy — Eni has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Libya on identifying opportunities to reduce the country’s greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions and develop sustainable energy.
The company will work on limiting CO2 emissions through the reduction of routine gas flaring, fugitive emissions and venting, and assess other avenues for lowering hard-to-abate sector emissions.
It will also investigate new solutions for renewable energy and initiatives for electricity efficiency in Libya and consider potential development of additional gas resources from existing fields. These would be developed as part of an integrated project for the domestic market and potentially for export.
Eni was responsible for producing 80% of Libya’s gas last year (1.6 Bcf/d) and jointly develops the country’s largest offshore oil and gas fields with state-owned NOC via the venture Mellitah Oil and Gas.
Its equity production was 165,000 boe/d in 2022.
