VOORBURG, The Netherlands --Chevron Exploration and Production Netherlands has brought onstream its A12 gas development in the Dutch North Sea.

Production started Dec. 20, and should shortly ramp up to around 98.5 MMcf/d. The A12 central processing platform can handle 125 MMcf/d.

The field is around 280 km (174 mi) north of Den Helder, and is the first stage of a planned multi-phase development of shallow gas fields in the A and B blocks in the far north of the Dutch sector.

The current phase also involved drilling and completion of seven development wells and installation of an export pipeline connecting the A12 platform to the A6-F3 trunkline.

Gas from the field heads to Den Helder through both A6-F3 and the Nogat pipeline systems.
