TRONDHEIM, Norway  OKEA has discovered more oil in the Brage Field in the northern Norwegian North Sea.

The operator drilled production well 31/4-A 13 E from the Brage platform in 137 m of water. According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), a horizontal sidetrack from 31/4-A 13 E encountered the Sognefjord Formation at a subsurface depth of 2,147 m and proved oil in a 10-m sandstone layer.

The NPD estimates 0.2 MMcm to 0.5 MMcm of oil recoverable.

In its latest results statement, OKEA said it had also started producing gas from a well in the A Sognefjord Formation. But Gassco, operator of the Gassled pipeline, has temporarily reduced the gas export infrastructure capacity to 0.8 MMcm/d following technical issues, so Brage’s gas export capacity is currently lower.

The company is working with Gassco and OKEA to remove this constraint as soon as possible, although the Talisker East well continues to deliver gas production.

Also in the Brage area, OKEA recently completed drilling of the Fensfjord south well and expects it to start producing in the current quarter, along with the Cook production well. Drilling should also begin shortly on a Talisker East water injector and a second producer in Talisker South-Eas, with an appraisal well lined up from the platform on the Kim discovery in 2024.

At the OKEA-operated Draugen Field in the Norwegian Sea, the semisub Transocean Endurance drilled and completed two observation wells this summer. The well on the Springmus East prospect proved the presence of an 8-m hydrocarbon column while the Garn West South well delivered an 11.5-m hydrocarbon column.

Production from the Nova Field in the North Sea has been constrained by maintenance at the host Gjøa platform and reduced effectiveness of the water injectors. A rig has been secured to drill a fourth water injector in the second half of 2024.
