Vallourec to apply ExxonMobil proprietary insulation for two projects offshore Guyana

The coated line pipes for the Hammerhead and Longtail developments will feature Proxxima resin for added thermal performance.

ExxonMobil Guyana has awarded Vallourec two more offshore line pipe orders under their long-term agreement signed in 2021.

Vallourec will supply coated line pipe for the deepwater Hammerhead and Longtail projects in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana.

The full scope covers more than 145 km of line pipe, (about 40,000 metric tons), of which 90 km (22,000 mt) will be insulated with ExxonMobil’s Proxxima resin systems with GDLX subsea insulation technology.

In addition, Vallourec will apply anti-corrosion coatings and pipes cladded with a corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA) weld overlay.

The company says it is the first licensee of the Proxxima resin systems with GDLX subsea insulation technology. In support, it will invest in an upgrade of its Vallourec Coating Solutions plant in Serra, Espírito Santo state, Brazil.

Proxxima resin systems with GDLXTM are designed to provide enhanced thermal performance compared with conventional insulation systems, the company said.

The single-layer molded design can be applied directly to bare steel, speeding up pipe insulation turnaround times.

The insulation is also said to improve cool-down times, reducing the operational costs associated with mitigation such as inhibitor injection or dead-oil circulation during extended shutdowns.
