ZUG, Switzerland – The gas-in procedure has started for the first string of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline through the Baltic Sea.

According to Nord Stream AG, the string will be filled gradually to achieve the required inventory and pressure ahead of technical tests.

The pipeline’s first string previously underwent pre-commissioning activities to assure the system’s integrity, including internal assessment using pipeline inspection gauges and external visual and instrumental surveys of the pipeline.

Pre-commissioning procedures are ongoing for the second string.
