ABERDEEN, UK -- Hess UK has awarded Awilco Drilling a letter of intent for use of the semisub WilHunter.

This concerns additional work related to well abandonment program over the next three years in the UK central North Sea.

If confirmed, the current firm contract duration of 400 days will likely be extended to 950 days, plus options for up to 275 further days.

This would increase the contract value by around $212 million. Work is due to start in April.

WilHunter is one of Awilco Drilling's two Enhanced Pacesetter semisubs, and is equipped to drill in water depths up to 1,500 m (4,921 ft).
