Engagement 9 OBN survey underway in GoM’s Walker Ridge area

TGS has accelerated its global momentum with new seismic projects, fresh contract wins and partnerships spanning the Gulf of Mexico (GoM), Europe, Australia and North Africa.

TGS is off to an active start this year, advancing exploration readiness with major initiatives across multiple regions, including the reprocessing of its Sunfish 3D survey offshore Liberia and the launch of a new long‑offset OBN multi‑client survey in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM).

The company also kicked off a multi‑client PSDM reprocessing project in Australia, secured new OBN and streamer contracts in Europe and Norway, and expanded its footprint with an additional OBN award in the North Sea.

Rounding out its busy slate, TGS recently signed a Letter of Intent with Libya’s NOC subsidiary to enable new multi‑client data collaboration and launched Engagement Phase 9 in the GoM to deliver enhanced deepwater subsurface imaging.

Engagement 9 OBN campaign starts, covering 161 OCS blocks

TGS and SLB started data acquisition of Engagement 9 earlier this month. This is the latest phase of their joint ocean-bottom node (OBN) multi-client campaign in the US Gulf of Mexico (GoM).

The current program covers 161 Outer Continental Shelf blocks in the prolific deepwater Walker Ridge protraction area, one of the Gulf’s most prolific deepwater provinces.

TGS said the resulting dataset should lead to marked improvements in subsurface illumination over an area with structural complexity and deep hydrocarbon potential.

Deploying a low-frequency source, the company added, should enable richer low-frequency content that enhances FWI and long-wavelength velocity model building.

To date, the phase project has covered some of the basin’s major producing fields such as Stones, Jack, St. Malo and Cascade.

Engagement 9 is designed to provide greater subsurface confidence in potential infrastructure-led exploration opportunities.

OBN acquisition should finish by July, with final data products made available in the second half of 2027.

Expanding multi-client data activities in Libya

Elsewhere, TGS signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) on Jan. 30 with North Africa Geophysical Co., (NAGECO), a subsidiary of the Libya National Oil Corp. (NOC).

The LoI, which establishes a framework to enable further multi-client collaboration with TGS to support upstream development in Libya, is subject to final contractual arrangements and regulatory approvals.
