MASSY, FranceEquinor has contracted CGG to perform seismic imaging of the Bacalhau 3D ocean bottom node (OBN) survey in the Santos basin offshore Brazil.

Acquisition of the 409-sq km (158-sq mi) survey should be completed this month: thereafter, CGG expects to deliver final products for the fully imaged dataset within 10 months.

Work has already started at the company’s Rio de Janeiro subsurface imaging center.

Here, geoscientists are employing technologies including reverse time migration, time-lag full-waveform inversion (TLFWI) and interbed multiple attenuation, to address presalt illumination issues caused by the presence of thick, stratified salt.

Combining OBN data with TLFWI should lead to more detailed and reliable velocity model building and imaging, CGG said, providing geological insight at post-salt, intra-salt and presalt levels.

This should reduce uncertainties and improve structural interpretation to assist future drilling plans and development of the deepwater Bacalhau field.
