MASSY, FranceCGG has delivered fast-track data from its reimaging program over the Agata block in the presalt Santos basin.

The reimaged seismic data set, covering more than 9,300 sq km (3,591 sq mi), will be available to oil and gas companies wishing to assess the potential of the block ahead of Brazil’s 7th Production Sharing Bidding Round.

The Agata prospect comprises ultra-deep presalt targets beneath a highly deformed salt layer. Imaging in this area is said to be challenging due to the complexity of the salt geometry and the network of igneous rocks in the post-salt associated with the Cabo Frio High volcanic activity.

CGG’s program is designed to improve the base of salt continuity, lateral coherence and overall resolution, with the resulting images lessening the risk and improving understanding of the exploratory potential.

It involves reimaging the company’s legacy Santos VII broadband multi-client data set with its latest proprietary processing technologies, such as inter-bed multiple attenuation and Time-Lag FWI, to better address the complexities of the area.

Final migrations are under way, including a TTI Kirchhoff and 45Hz RTM, and are being processed in two phases. Phase I, available in May, provides around 2,373 sq km (916 sq mi) of data directly over the Agata block; Phase II will incorporate the remaining 7,007 sq km (2,705 sq mi) of the project area with final migrations for the full program expected in August.

Dechun Lin, executive vice president, Multi Client, CGG, added: “The prospective Agata block lies in the vicinity of other high-profile blocks that received recent bids for exploration.”
