SOUTHAMPTON, UK – Shell has signed a joint development agreement with Ocean Infinity concerning multi-client offshore ‘seep hunter’ projects.

Ocean Infinity will deploy its ‘Armada’ fleet of robotic ships to provide location targeting and wide- scale coverage. The partners aim to deliver more reliable results, in turn improving the focus of exploration work with fewer risks and a lessened environmental impact.

The fleet, due to become operational next year, is equipped with AUVs offering deepwater coverage.

Katya Krylova, the company’s vice president Business Development Oil & Gas Exploration Services, said: “Refining our ability to conduct tasks such as seep hunting using uncrewed technology opens up possibilities in so many other areas; the experience gained as a result of this collaboration could prove transferable to other offshore tasks such as carbon capture storage monitoring.”

In February, the company announced it would launch what it claimed would be the world’s first fleet of carbon neutral unmanned robotic vessels.
