ASKER, NorwayTGS has completed processing of the northern portion of its ocean bottom node (OBN) multi-client survey in the Norwegian North Sea.

Data processing for the southern half of the Utsira region is expected to conclude in September.

The company finished acquiring the 1,584-sq km (611-sq mi) Utsira survey last October in partnership with Axxis Geo Solutions.

In total, 143,567 nodes were deployed with 3,942,230 shots, with input data for processing of the entire survey estimated at 1.5 petabytes.

The data collected was equivalent to a typical 520,000-sq km (200,773-sq mi) marine survey, TGS pointed out. Starting March 18, the company will stage a roadshow in Norway for companies interested in viewing the data.

CEO Kristian Johansen said: “Our OBN data is defining a new reference point for quality subsurface imaging which will be imperative for E&P companies as they seek to maximize the life of producing fields and production facilities.”

OBN is designed to help operators address complex geological imaging challenges. Through applying full azimuth and ultra-long offsets acquisition, TGS said, complex geology can be illuminated in all directions and structures and attribute variations properly understood.

A greater than 10-times higher fold improves the signal-to-noise ratio, and the ability to distinguish between structure and attribute anomalies, it added, while OBN also supports characterization of fluids in a reservoir.
