Wintershall cleared to proceed with North Sea Nova development

Wintershall Norge has received sanction from Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy for its plan for development and operation for the Nova field in the North Sea.

STAVANGER, Norway – Wintershall Norge has received sanction from Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy for its plan for development and operation for the Nova field in the North Sea.

The location is in Quadrant 35, around 120 km (74.6 mi) northwest of Bergen. Development will be through two new subsea templates tied back to the Gjøa platform, 20 km (12.4 mi) to the northeast, for processing and onward export.

Gjøa, operated by Neptune Energy, will also provide lift gas to theNova field and water injection for pressure support, and power via the platform from shore.

Aker Solutions is working on the subsea production system. Subsea 7 is responsible for the pipeline and subsea construction, withSeadrill drilling the wells.

Wintershall estimates capex for the development at around EUR1.1 billion ($1.27 billion). It aims to recover around 80 MMboe, mostly oil, with a targeted start-up in 2021.
