Petropars develops visualization software for South Pars project

TEHRAN, Iran – Petropars unveiled augmented reality technology at the 20th Oil Exhibition in Tehran. The company displayed a 3D and animated image of the South Pars gas field Phase 12.
According to news service Shana, augmented reality (AR) is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment, the elements of which are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics, or GPS data.
It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented), by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing the user’s current perception of reality.
Hardware components for the augmented reality include a processor, display, sensors, and input devices. Smartphones and tablet computers also contain these elements which often include a camera and MEMS sensors such as accelerometer, GPS, and solid state compass, making them suitable AR platforms, Shana said.
Various technologies suited to AR include optical projection systems, and monitors.
Shana also reported that platforms forphases 17 and 18 of South Pars are due to be delivered in June, quoting project manager Amir Mombini.
Each is designed to process 500 MMcf/d of gas. More than 60% of the equipment used in the platforms has been supplied by Iranian manufacturers.
Phases 17 and 18 will additionally supply 80,000 b/d of gas condensate, 400 tons/d of sulfur, 1 MMt/yr of ethane and 1.05 MMt/yr of liquefied gas.
