Keppel LeTourneau says that the high visibility offered by its new-generation crane cab that gives it the name “Hawkeye.”
Keppel LeTourneau has introduced Hawkeye, a PCM-SS crane cab that has been specifically designed with the crane operator in mind, according to the company. With large laminated safety glass windows on all sides, the design offers operators a large 250° lateral field of view, including an enhanced upwards and downwards view unhindered by control positions. In fact, it is the high visibility offered by this new-generation crane cab that gives it the name “Hawkeye.” The cab location has also been optimized to ensure that the operator always faces the load, thereby maximizing both the ergonomics and visibility of the operator.
With Hawkeye, Keppel LeTourneau says it has responded to feedback it has received from crane operators focused on operator fatigue, as well as neck and shoulder aches. The company fitted each Hawkeye with an ergonomically designed chair, ensuring that all controls are within the operator’s reach to maximize comfort while not interfering with visibility in the normal sitting position. Additionally, the company says it made sure that each cabin is also climate controlled with HVAC, to improve the ventilation and air quality.
Keppel LeTourneau says that because line-of-sight is critical for crane operators, it studied existing cranes and consulted with its customers to develop an optimal design that would enhance the visibility of operators. Advanced controls and monitoring were also installed to enhance operator efficiency.
Keppel LeTourneau says that it has designed the Hawkeye cab such that it can be installed on all cranes with just a few tweaks to the current design, which was initially targeted for the PCM-SS model. The company says that the cab can be installed in seven days.
