ULSAN, South Korea – POSCO International has awarded Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) a letter of intent for a gas compression platform for Phase 3 of the Shwe development project offshore Myanmar.

KSOE is Hyundai Heavy Industries’ intermediate holding company, controlling the group’s shipbuilding units.

The $450-million contract calls for construction of a 27,000-ton facility that will be connected to the existing gas production platform to boost pressure in the field, in order to maintain output at 500 MMcf/d.

It is due to be installed at the Shwe field in the Bay of Bengal by the first half of 2024.

Assuming final approval from Myanmar government for the Phase 3 plan, KSOE’s scope will cover design, procurement, production, transportation, installation, and test operation of the platform, under an EPCIC award.

Hyundai previously participated in 2013 for Phase 1 of the Shwe project building the existing gas production platform.
