ATHENS, Greece – First gas from the Karish field offshore Israel could be delayed if COVID-19 restrictions continue to slow construction progress.

Operator Energean is targeting sail away of the FPSO Energean Power hull from the Admiralty Yard in Singapore for late summer, followed by first gas around year-end 2021.

This timetable, however, requires a full ramp-up in manpower at the yard, where employment has plateaued at around 1,000 workers since December, mainly due to present conditions.

Energean, project manager TechnipFMC, and the contractors are holding talks on how to build the workforce numbers in order to deliver the year-end target. If this is not possible, first gas might slip two to three months into 1Q 2022.

The FPSO is now at the 93% completion stage, with most of the main modules and pipe racks lifted onto the hull, aside from module 1 and the flare.

In addition, Energean is progressing a project to install a second oil train and second riser on the FPSO, raising liquids production capacity from 21,000 b/d to roughly 35,000 b/d, and higher maximum gas production at 800 MMcf/d. This additional equipment should become operational during 2022.

Subsea activity is around 76% complete with the 14-line mooring and deepwater production systems installed and the 90-km (56-mi) gas sales pipeline close to completion.

The riser installation campaign is due to get under way shortly.
