TGS expands Brazil seismic program, advances AI-driven exploration initiative

Recent updates from TGS highlight a new 3D seismic survey offshore Brazil and continued development of AI-enabled workflows designed to support exploration decision-making.

Why this news matters:

  • New seismic data could help de-risk exploration prospects in Brazil’s Pelotas Basin.

  • The updates highlight how AI and advanced data analytics are becoming increasingly important to offshore exploration.

  • TGS is expanding its exploration intelligence portfolio through both data acquisition and digital technologies.

TGS has announced two developments aimed at strengthening exploration intelligence capabilities: a new 3D seismic acquisition program in Brazil's Pelotas Basin and continued progress in its collaboration with Galdor Exploration on AI-driven prospect evaluation tools.

Pelotas Basin survey expands offshore Brazil coverage

TGS and SLB are preparing to start their joint Pelotas Sul Phase 2 multi-client 3D survey offshore southern Brazil.

A Ramform Titan-class vessel should start acquiring data shortly over an 11,200-sq-km area, with completion projected for Q2/Q3 2027.

Acquisition for Pelotas Sul Phase 1 finished earlier this year.

The Pelotas Basin offers underexplored play concepts, TGS said, ranging from turbidite systems and deepwater channels, to stratigraphic and structural traps.

Pelotas Sul Phase 2 coverage will include both held and open acreage.

Galdor partnership targets faster prospect evaluation

TGS also announced a framework agreement for a collaboration with Galdor Exploration, a newly formed company targeting exploration on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and wider North Sea region.

Galdor’s multidisciplinary exploration team has experience working in Norway and internationally.

The company will gain access to TGS’ integrated data and technology solutions, including TGS’ proprietary Seismic Foundation Model.

“Galdor’s strategy is built on a conviction that the future of exploration lies in a modern exploration organization, where we combine deep exploration experience with premium subsurface data and next-generation AI-enabled workflows,” said Ørjan Gjerde, CEO of Galdor. “Our collaboration with TGS gives us access to data, technology and expertise of exceptional breadth and quality and allows us to apply advanced machine learning exploration techniques at scale. This will support Galdor’s goal to identify and mature exploration opportunities that, by using conventional approaches, may have been overlooked, underestimated or left behind.”
