bp awards Baker Hughes North Sea well stimulation contract for new and mature fields

Baker Hughes will deploy its vessel-based StimFORCE stimulation system to support bp's UK North Sea operations, targeting both new well completions and enhanced recovery from mature assets.

Why this news matters:

  • The contract highlights continued operator focus on maximizing recovery from mature North Sea assets while supporting new developments, helping extend field life and improve production efficiency.

  • Vessel-based intervention and stimulation services can provide a lower-footprint alternative to rig-based operations, potentially reducing costs and downtime during well enhancement campaigns.

Baker Hughes will provide offshore stimulation services to support bp’s UK North Sea operations.

The award covers both new development wells and enhanced recovery from mature fields.

Baker Hughes will deploy vessel-based StimFORCE modular stimulation equipment for well completions and production enhancement activities from its UK operating base.

The dedicated vessel technology is designed to be configured to enhance operational reliability, reduce non-productive time and optimize recovery.

The award reflects ongoing efforts by North Sea operators to improve recovery rates from mature reservoirs while managing operating costs. Production enhancement technologies, including stimulation and intervention services, remain important tools for extending asset life and maximizing output from existing infrastructure.

Amerino Gatti, EVP of Oilfield Services & Equipment at Baker Hughes, said, "By combining our vessel-based stimulation expertise, advanced intervention technologies and production optimization capabilities, we are well positioned to help bp enhance reservoir performance, increase operational flexibility and unlock additional value from both new and mature fields across its North Sea portfolio.”
