The Transocean Equinox semisubmersible rig has spudded the Juliet-1 gas exploration well offshore Victoria, operated by Amplitude Energy.
Amplitude is pursuing further supplies for its East Coast Supply Project (ECSP). The project is aimed at securing additional gas supplies for Australia's east coast market through the development of offshore discoveries near existing production infrastructure.
Prospect targets Waarre C reservoir
Juliet-1 is in the VIC/L24 permit, near the offshore Casino, Henry and Netherby (CHN) pipeline system. The primary Waarre C reservoir target is estimated to contain prospective gas resources of 48.8 Bcf. Its location near existing export and processing infrastructure could shorten the timeline between discovery and commercialization.
The prospect is said to be supported by high Waarre C reservoir amplitudes, with a clear "flat spot" at about 2,300 m TVDSS, and an estimated probability of geological success of 84%.
Amplitude and partner O.G. Energy each hold a 50% interest in the permit.
Discovery could support East Coast Supply Project
The well should take about 20 to 25 days to reach the planned total depth. If a discovery follows, logging evaluation will take place to determine the gas composition and quality of the reservoir.
In that event, the well would be cased and completed with a subsea tree and, upon success with a flow test, suspended for future ECSP development.
