Amplitude finds gas in Juliet prospect offshore SE Australia

Resource is close to pipeline infrastructure in the Otway basin.

Amplitude Energy has proven gas with its Juliet-1 well exploration well in the Otway Basin, offshore Victoria.

The semisubmersible Transocean Equinox drilled the well in the VIC/L24 permit, close to the offshore Casino, Henry, Netherby (CHN) pipeline.

Amplitude Energy is operator and 50% interest holder in VIC/L24 with O.G. Energy holding the remaining 50% interest.

The 8 ½-inch hole section penetrated the primary Waarre C reservoir target, reaching TD of 2,299 m.

Initial drilling and logging data revealed elevated gas readings in the Waarre C reservoir (intersected at 2,129 m TVDSS). Amplitude said the gas peaks coincide with elevated resistivity readings noted on Logging While Drilling (LWD) tools, and are consistent with a probable hydrocarbon presence.

The well path through the Waarre C sandstone showed a gross gas-bearing interval of at least 60 m, including 49 m interpreted as good-quality net pay in line with other Waarre C reservoirs in offset fields.

Results are in-line with pre-drill expectations in terms of reservoir quality and thickness.

Over the next few days, wireline logging operations will continue to collect pressure and sample data to support assessment of the resource volume and to determine the gas composition.

Amplitude and partner O.G. Energy will then decide on completion of the well, followed by a clean-up prior to suspension Data from the clean-up operation should help clarify reservoir deliverability, with further laboratory analysis to be conducted to confirm the gas composition.
