Perenco T&T has proven more gas in the undeveloped Onyx discovery offshore southeast Trinidad.

Perenco T&T, operator of the Teak, Samaan and Poui (TSP) fields, has proven more gas in the undeveloped Onyx discovery offshore southeast Trinidad.

Drilling of the Onyx well and sidetrack in the eastern part of the field delivered substantial columns of gas in two separate geological compartments.

Onyx is in 180 ft of water within the TSP license, between the Poui and Teak fields. TSP is a joint venture between Perenco T&T, Heritage Petroleum and The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago.

Subsurface data are under review, and the partners will consider development options to move the discovery toward FID, Perenco added.

The company has produced hydrocarbons in Trinidad & Tobago since 2016, when it assumed operatorship of the TSP fields. Early on, it implemented a modernization program to fully electrify the facilities and increase gas production.

Last December, Perenco acquired the gas producing Cashima, Amherstia, Flamboyant & Immortelle (CAFI) fields offshore Trinidad from bp. In March, the company agreed to acquire Woodside Energy’s interests in offshore blocks 2c and 3a (Greater Angostura).
