Aker BP to probe for shallow gas in North Sea Frigg area

Aker BP has permission from Petroleum Safety Authority Norway to drill an investigative well on the Frigg Gamma Delta prospect in Norwegian North Sea license PL 442.

OSLO, Norway – Aker BP has permission from Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway to drill an investigative well on the Frigg Gamma Delta prospect in Norwegian North Sea license PL 442.

The semisubmersibleIsland Innovator will drill well 25/2-U-19 down to 1,180 m (3,871 ft) at the site where future drilling will take place, 20 km (12 mi) east of the Frigg field.

According to the PSA, the aim is to discount the possible existence of shallow gas or water zones where future development wells are to be drilled.

Water depth at the site is 120 m (393 ft). The program should last five days.
