STAVANGER, Norway --StatoilHydro's latest exploration well in the Barents Sea found only traces of hydrocarbons.

ThePolar Pioneer drilled the well on the Askeladd prospect in a water depth of 275 m (902 ft) in block 7120/8, around 6 km (3.73 mi) southwest of the Snøhvit field.

It reached a total vertical depth of 2,674 m (8,772 ft) below the sea surface, in late Triassic rocks. The well will be plugged and abandoned.
