OSLO, Norway -- The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate reports that operator Eni Norge AS has completed drilling of wildcat well 7122/7-5 on the Goliat West structure and the sidetrack 7122/7-5 A on the Goliat main structure on production license 229 in the North Sea. The production license is 50 km (31 mi) southeast of the Snøhvit field and 85 km (53 mi) northwest of Hammerfest.

Well 7122/7-5 was drilled to 2,205 m (7,234 ft) TD. Sidetrack well 7122/7-5 A was drilled to 1,950 m (6,398 ft) TD. The sidetrack proved an oil column in the Kobbe formation from the Middle Triassic that is being evaluated as part of the resource estimate for the Goliat discovery. The well was not production tested, but extensive logging and core sampling were carried out. Additional drilling is planned on the production license in the autumn of 2007.

Transocean Inc.'s semisubmersiblePolar Pioneer drilled both wells in a water depths of 371 m (1,217 ft). The Polar Pioneer will now drill wildcat well 7125/4-1 on the Nucula prospect for Hydro in production license 393 in the Barents Sea.

Eni Norge operates the license with 65% interest. Partners include Statoil ASA with 20% interest and DNO with the remaining 15%.
