TEHRAN -- Development drilling should start next week on South Pars Phase 16 in the Persian Gulf, according to Iran’s Petro-energy Information Network (Shana).

Abolghasem Nobakhti, director of the project, told Shana that drilling contractor Kish Global Petrotec Co. had arranged to bring in a Chinese-owned rig Cosel Force for the program. He added that another rig had started drilling on the South Pars Phase 15 project.

In another news item, Shana reports strong interest from countries in the Persian Gulf area and Southeast Asia in a €1 billion ($1.37 billion) bond offering to help finance development of South Pars phases 15-18. Saeed Ghafari, head of Bank Mellat’s international department, said there had been strong interest in the offer from buyers in Persian Gulf countries and in Southeast Asia.

Another report by Shana suggests a European company has agreed to participate in development of the Lavan gas field, again in the Persian Gulf. Mahmoud Zirkchianzade, managing director of National Iranian Oil Co., said a delegation from Europe is scheduled to visit Tehran shortly to finalize negotiations for the project.

He estimated reserves in place at Lavan at 6 tcm (212 tcf). Development could lead to exports of 4 million tons/yr of LNG to Europe, he added.
