(Asia-Pacific) - Pearl Energy Ltd. has abandoned an exploration well and suspended a third well planned in Indonesia's Sebuku production sharing contract area, saying the latest wireline logs indicate that the targeted Berai formation was devoid of hydrocarbon.
Pearl says it has decided to defer the drilling of the third exploration well in the Makassar Straits block in order to fully evaluate the findings of the first two wells.
Although the well, Berlian 1A, was to hit 5,400 ft depth to test secondary objectives in the Lower Tanjung formation, hole problems prevented this, and it was plugged and abandoned without testing.
The well, a part of a three-well program in the block, was targeting a carbonate reef within the Berai formation.
Located 30 km northwest of the Makassar Straits-1 gas discovery, the well was drilled to a total depth of 4,200 ft within the Upper Tanjung formation, says Pearl.
