(Aberdeen) Appraisal drilling is under way on the Babbage gas field in the UK North Sea, which has potential in-place gas of up to 390 bcf, according to Dana Petroleum. The well is targeting a crestal area of the reservoir to establish productivity ahead of a development decision. If successful, Babbage will likely be tied back to existing infrastructure nearby.

Dana is also participating in the Antrim-operated Causeway exploration well in block 211/23d, which is effectively testing two prospects. The well has encountered further oil in the Brent reservoir close to the existing discovery (211/23d-2) and in the previously undrilled A prospect. Dana adds that subsurface studies are under way to determine development opportunities, wither on the existing finds or in new fault blocks.

In the Dutch sector, Dana is a partner in the E18-DF well, which has reached total depth, encountering good quality gas-bearing sands. As a result, an appraisal well could follow in a fault block to the west, with the aim of proving up further volumes. The host platform for production would be the facility on F16-E, which came onstream last year.
