ABERDEEN, UK – BP has awarded Weatherford UK a two-year contract for managed pressure drilling (MPD) services in the UK continental shelf (UKCS). Weatherford’s drilling hazard mitigation technology will be used on BP’s Harding field infill drilling project.

The field’s targeted reservoirs include high angle, high step out, extended reach (ERD) wells. These wells require the company to balance shale instability, losses to the sands, and high ECDs. Using Weatherford’s Secure Drilling System, BP can maintain a desired bottomhole, while controlling instability and losses, the company says.

Weatherford’s proprietary Secure Drilling system is a fully automated choke system that measures and reacts to wellbore pressures and flows in real-time.
