Maersk proves more oil in deepwater offshore Angola

COPENHAGEN, Denmark – Maersk Oil has discovered more oil in deepwater block 16 in the Lower Congo basin offshore Angola.
The semisubmersiblePride South Pacific drilled Caporolo-1 as a step-out exploration well on a structure 13 km (7.5 mi) from the Chissonga discovery. A production test flowed oil at up to 3,000 b/d on a 36/64-in. choke.
The well was drilled in the western part of the block in 1,235 m (4,052 ft) of water, 300 km (186 mi) northwest of Luanda. Maersk says the find warrants further appraisal to establish whether the find is commercial.
Work continues on a development plan for Chissonga, with the Chissonga-4 appraisal well under way last month. Four more exploration/appraisal wells are planned for the block.
In Angolan offshore block 23, Maersk says a well could be drilled next year as a follow-up to theAzul deepwater oil discovery.
