SANDY BAY, Australia – Metocean Services International (MSI) has completed mobilization of a current mooring and metocean buoy for Maersk Oil in block 16 offshore Angola. Water depth is about 1,200 m (3,937 ft).

The project aims to compile site-specific current, wave, and meteorological data through the entire water column to help optimize the design of a floating production system.

MSI’s current mooring comprises a combination of current profilers, current meters, and CTD. The metocean buoy – a 1.8-m (5.9-ft) Axys Watchmate – comprises wave, surface current, and meteorological sensors.

Operations were managed from theRagnhild K vessel, which was mobilized from Luanda, with assistance from MSI’s local partner Zamexi Lda.

The moorings will be serviced at three-month intervals for one year. Data from the metocean buoy are being transmitted in real-time to MSI’s offices, for access by the client.
