LONDON – Nexan has contracted the ENSCO 120 harsh environment jackup drilling rig for work on the Golden Eagle development in the North Sea.

The $120-million contract covers an estimated 10 wells in the central portion of the North Sea starting in 4Q 2013. Nexan has 11 one-well options on the newbuild jackup scheduled for delivery in 2Q 2013.

The ENSCO 120 and two sister jackups are being built at Keppel FELS in Singapore. The enhanced KFELS Super A design can work in water depths to 400 ft (122 m) with high-temperature/high-pressure equipment, a proprietary Ensco high-capacity design cantilever envelope, 2.5 million pound quad derrick, automated hands-free offline pipe handling systems, ultra-high capacity jacking and fixation systems, and 150-person quarters.

ENSCO 121 and ENSCO 122 are scheduled for delivery in 4Q 2013 and 3Q 2014, respectively.
