KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Petronas Carigali has discovered oil in the Wakid structure offshore Sabah.

The Wakid-1 well spudded on May 30 in block 2G-2J, 100 km (62 mi) northwest of Kota Kinabalu, and was completed on July 4.

It reached TVD of 3,330 m (10,925 ft) and according to Petronas established the presence of significant oil and some gas-bearing reservoirs.

Three production tests were performed in three different reservoirs which flowed oil at a combined rate reaching 8,200 b/d.

Petronas estimates in-place reserves at 227 MMboe, with potential upside. The company plans further appraisal in the near future.

This was the second well on the block since the award of the PSC in October 2010. Tambuku-1 early this year found small quantities of gas.
