ABERDEEN, UK – Petrofac claims to have saved Tullow Oil $2.5 million on decommissioning costs for a recent well P&A campaign in the UK southern North Sea.
The contractor provided well engineering and well project management services under a six-month contract for theHorne and Wren fields - where Petrofac is duty holder on the normally unmanned platform - as part of Tullow’s Thames Area Complex decommissioning project.
Petrofac delivered the conceptual design, detailed planning, procurement, subcontractor management and execution of P&A operations, using its well project management software WellAtlas.
The company deployed a jackup lift barge rather than the conventional solution of a jackup rig, and a pipe recovery technique instead of a heavy-lift vessel.
Alex Macdonald, managing director – well engineering, Petrofac Engineering & Production Services, said: “We also saved time on the project by proposing optimization solutions to allow the preparatory works to be integrated as simultaneous operations.”
